WMAT Conference - 19th March 2024

WMAT Staff Conference  - Flow Working

Tuesday 19th March 2024

Travel Expenses for those travelling by car or public transport

For those colleagues not travelling by coach, travel expenses up to a value

of £12.00 for the return journey will be reimbursed.  These expenses will be

reimbursed to staff through April or May 2024 Payroll.
The expense will be paid on production of a completed claim form accompanied

by a valid train/bus ticket/car parking ticket. Claim forms will be available from

your payroll contact for your school.  If employees choose to car share,

the expense will be reimbursed to the driver.

Parking in the immediate vicinity of GLive is limited and so colleagues travelling

by car should take responsibility for checking parking options in Guildford, in advance.

Please aim to arrive at the venue at, or as close to, 9.00 am as possible.

Items to bring on the day
To support our sustainable pledges, please bring with you on the day:

Your staff lanyard / name badge

Your orange photo exempt lanyard (if requested)

A water bottle

A notepad and pen, if you wish, but this is not necessary.

Refreshments and catering

Tea, coffee and pastries will be served on arrival from 9.00 am.
During the morning break there will be an opportunity to have a hot drink.
Lunch will be served at a number of serving points with options for those with

dietary needs available at all serving points.  We have worked closely with the

GLive catering team to ensure that the lunch is served as quickly as possible

and that there is plenty of choice for all delegates, however

we do ask that you are patient.

We are expecting 700 colleagues so that's a lot of mouths to feed in an hour!

The WMAT Staff Conference is now just a few weeks away....

Don't forget to let your School Business Manager know if you would like to make

use of the free transport from your school to GLive, and also if you have any

special dietary needs or require special access arrangements.

Please note: If you would like to travel by coach from a school that is not your

normal workplace but is more local to your home, then please feel free to contact

the SBM of said school to see if there is space and make arrangements ....

they will be happy to accommodate any requests, space allowing.

The dress code for our conference is professional attire i.e. the attire you would

usually wear to your place of work.

We are thrilled to have secured speakers of the highest calibre including:

Laura McInerney, co-founder of Teacher Tapp and regular columnist for The Guardian;

Stephanie Hare, former director at Accenture Research, political risk analyst, historian and

researcher intechnology. Stephanie frequently writes editorials for the Financial Times and is a regular

world's greatest orchestras including The Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and the

Important information you need to know:

We will be welcoming guests at GLive from 9.00am for coffee and pastries ahead of a prompt

start in the auditorium at 9.40am.  The conference will close at 2.45pm with the bar at GLive open for an

hour or so after the event for anyone that would like to enjoy a post conference drink with us!  Please note

you are not obliged to stay for the full day, if you need to leave prior to 2.45pm there will be breaks

during the day, when it will be possible for you to do so discreetly.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.  Please feel free to bring a refillable

water bottle to use during the day to reduce the number of disposable cups used.

Please email klockett@weydonschool.surrey.sch.uk  to inform us of any special dietary needs in advance

of the event or if you require any specific access arrangements.

Free coach travel to and from GLive is being organised from our schools.  If you would like to make

use of this service please contact the business manager at your chosen school to arrange this.

Spaces will be subject to availability so please do not delay in reaching out if this is your preference.

Alternatively, you can make your own way to the venue and make use of the several nearby public car parks

– details of which can be found here.

There will be a professional photographer capturing the event on film for us.  If you would prefer not to

have your photograph taken please find a member of the WMAT Team and ask for a bright yellow lanyard

so that the photographer can easily identify you.

Please RSVP klockett@weydonschool.surrey.sch.uk if you intend to join us and to inform us of any

special dietary needs by 1st March 2024.

We very much hope to see you on March 19th for what promises to be a fantastic day!

Our Sustainable Pledges

Once again, we are making every effort to make the WMAT Staff Conference 2024

as sustainable as possible, we have made a number of pledges:

The GLive venue has won awards for its sustainability

so we are delighted to be working with them once again.

Efficient transport plan, utilising shared coaches and encouraging lift shares.

We have rethought the welcome packs to avoid plastic and waste.

Please bring your own refillable water bottle to avoid plastic waste.

We have asked G-Live to provide paper cups instead of their usual plastic

containers for use in the auditorium and foyer area.

We will use our own staff lanyards rather than disposable badges.

We can’t wait to see everyone on 19th March.

We are delighted to be able to announce the first or our keynote speakers - Stephanie Hare

WMAT Staff Conference 2024  - Flow Working

Following the announcement in last week’s newsletter regarding the 2024 WMAT

Staff Conference we are pleased to confirm some more details about this exciting event.

As well as an inspiring line up, we are responding to feedback from previous conferences

to become more sustainable. We will be sharing our sustainable  pledges in future

communications, but in the first instance, we aim to offer a sustainable travel package by

encouraging the use of free coaches, public transport or car sharing.

WMAT Conference Travel Arrangements

A free coach will allocated for each school to take staff to and from GLive in good time for the

start (9.00 am) and end of the conference (14.30 pm).

If colleagues prefer to travel by public transport or car share instead, WMAT will pay travel

expenses (including parking) up to a total of £10.00 for the return journey.

Further details of how to make a claim will follow in future communications.

To facilitate logistics in a timely manner, some additional information will be required from

you around your travel plans, dietary needs and any access arrangements.  A request for

this will come via a representative within your school who will be the main point of contact

for all conference related matters....please look out for it!

I am sure that you will be looking forward to this opportunity as much as we are; we will be

providing information regularly as the date approaches. The aim of the conference is for all

of us to come together to celebrate all that we do, be inspired and benefit from amazing

professional development. Therefore, the expectation is that all staff attend from both

Associate and Teaching teams. Such opportunities to come together are rare and so we are

asking Principals / Headteachers to negotiate with part time staff to ensure attendance is

possible and to provide time in lieu where necessary.

We look forward to seeing you on 19th March at GLive!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - 5th January 2024

We are delighted to announce that Laura McInerny will once again be joining us at the

2024 WMAT Staff Conference on 19th March.  The conference is going to be hosted at GLive,

as it was last year, and we are working hard behind the scenes to secure a line-up of

exceptional keynote speakers and to ensure the whole event is even better than last year!
